What You Can Do to Get Involved

Water quality is directly affected by many of our activities, at home and at work. Identifying practices that reduce the discharge of pollutants into rivers, lakes and streams is important to preserving our habitat. In addition to following the solutions to stormwater pollution on this website, you can also become more directly involved in helping keep our waters clean by participating in the following activities:

Community Workshops
Workshops and educational seminars are held through cooperative extension services and many other organizations throughout metro Atlanta. These organizations also offer brochures and other resources that will help you to educate family members, co-workers and others in your community. These activities enable residents to life in a cleaner environment and help you to teach people about water pollution and the simple steps that people can take to keep waterways clean. Here are a few of the workshops we have planned:

Storm Drain Stenciling/Curb Markers
Storm drain stenciling and using curb markers help to get the message across that we need to “Keep it Clean, Drains to Stream.” Small and large groups can coordinate a stenciling project.* Contact your local government or view the calendar to find an event in your community.

If your organization, school or government would like to purchase a stencil kit or curb markers, click here for our online bookstore.

(* Always work with an organized group through the local government or organization that has permission to participate.)

Adopt-A-Stream
Stream cleanups, monitoring and visual stream surveys are just some of the activities that Adopt-A-Stream has to offer. Participating in activities such as Adopt-A-Stream projects to cleanup a stream not only teaches a "hands on lesson", but benefits the community as well. Learn more.

Keep Georgia Beautiful
Citizens around metro Atlanta can participate in road cleanups, storm drain stenciling, soil sampling, recycling days or other special activities sponsored by local Clean and Beautiful groups. Learn more.
